Renowned plein air painter Robert Moore has been considered an inspiration and mentor to many accomplished painters, including some who exhibit at Kneeland Gallery and some accomplished Wood River Valley artists.

He also has rubbed off on his own children with two of his sons and two of his daughters becoming talented artists in their own right.

In that vein, Kneeland Gallery is staging a September exhibition titled “Family Ties: The Moore Family.” And art lovers will be able to see the work of Anna, Rachel, Robbie and Caleb Moore exhibited alongside their father’s work during tonight’s Gallery Walk.

Numerous Ketchum galleries will be open from 5 to 7 p.m. tonight—Friday, Sept. 2—for the September Gallery Walk. Among them: Kneeland at 271 N. 1st Ave. N.

Robert Moore’s work is characterized by applying a multitude of oils onto his canvas, then working them with a palette knife with both hands until the composition emerges. What he does is all the more remarkable since he is color blind.

Moore’s daughter Anna Moore enjoys painting trees, which she creates with layers of color and texture. Rachel Moore depicts favorite vistas in an impressionistic style. Robbie Moore is inspired by places that held significance for him growing up, in particular the rugged Rocky Mountains.

And Caleb Moore, who has already exhibited numerous paintings at Kneeland Gallery, recently discovered a passion for sculpting and is now creating in clay and other mediums.

Friesen+Lantz at Sun Valley Road at First Avenue is showcasing Idaho’s first digital art exhibition.It will include the works of Barbara Vaughn, WhiskeyBlack and Marterium, along with live music from DJ Funkhauzen and complimentary tequila tastings and wine provided by Nosotros and Stanton Barrett. Gilman Contemporary, 661 Sun Valley Road, is showcasing Greg Miller’s “Bubble up” series. Miller draws from the time when advertising and text became encrypted into our experience of everyday life, when life as “advertised” and life as “lived” became intertwined. His images are saturated with hidden messages inviting viewers to delve deep into his pieces.

In addition, the gallery is showing Steve Wrubel’s photography, which captures fleeting moments inside the rodeo arena that appear as a blur from the sidelines.

Also featured is Jennifer Markowitz, a new artist to the gallery. Markowitz, a textile artist, uses panels of silk and personal garments to create images and text pulled from memories, traumas, confusions artifacts and maps.

Anderson Architects above Friesen + Lantz is featuring the work of Ketchum plein air painter Deanna Schrell. Schrell loves to mosey through desertscapes and under aspen canopy looking for the details. Then she conveys them to others through her art.

She started out doing stained glass windows for Louie’s and other restaurants, as well as private homes.  In 1993 she attended Boise State University, where she took a variety of painting classes.

“I’ve always been an artist at heart,” she said. “I love the beauty that comes out of paintings. When I paint, I see color. I love color and the juiciness of oil paint.”

MESH Gallery, 420 4th St. E., is showcasing Jeffrey Lubeck’s colorful photographs of the Sawtooth Mountains and other local landscapes. Sun Valley Museum of Art, 191 Fifth St. East, is displaying its new visual arts exhibition exploring the dams of the American West.
