NEW MILFORD — Weeks after a fire damaged the New Milford High School roof, Belfor, a recovery and restoration contractor, has been working daily to remove water-damaged drywall, detach lockers and pack classroom materials.

The New Milford Town Council was updated on Belfor’s progress at Monday’s council meeting. New Milford Mayor Pete Bass said spoke to Belfor during a Sunday visit to the high school.

On the second floor, Bass said Belfor has removed water damage and installed some drywall; finished cleaning and packing contents in cabinets that will be detached to remove more water-damaged drywall; and started removing the second floor’s suspended ceiling grid.

On the first floor, Belfor has continued cleaning and packing contents and cabinetry to remove the water-damaged drywall, and removed the floor’s suspended ceiling grid.

On both floors, Bass said Belfor has detached the lockers and removed the soggy drywall, continued cleaning soot and exposed wall cavities and is masking rooms and infrastructure above the ceiling grid ahead of fire proofing encapsulation.

Desks and file cabinets are being packed and held in the school cafeteria until they are moved to the town’s warehouse. Bass said Belfor has maintained all the air scrubbers and dehumidifiers in areas where drywall replacement is completed or in progress.
